LEC 2020 Season Overview

The 2020 LEC season was the second year of the rebranded European Championship. It was a year defined by resilience, as the league transitioned to a fully remote, online format mid-Spring Split. Despite the challenges, the rivalry between G2 Esports and Fnatic reached its peak, with G2 sweeping both finals 3-0.

Tournament Format

Regular Season:

  • Double Round Robin (Bo1): 10 teams play 18 matches.
  • The Top 6 teams advance to the Playoffs.

Playoffs:

  • Modified 6-team Double Elimination bracket.
  • The top seeds have the advantage of choosing their opponents or receiving "lives" in the bracket.
  • Winner of Spring qualified for the (eventually cancelled) MSI 2020. Top 4 of Summer qualified for the World Championship.

Summer Playoffs

Summer was defined by Schalke 04's Miracle Run, going from 1-10 to playoffs. However, the story ended with Fnatic finally beating G2 in a Bo5, only for G2 to win the rematch in the Grand Final 3-0.
