EU LCS 2016 Season Overview

The 2016 Season of the European League of Legends Championship Series (EU LCS) was a year of paradigm shifts. G2 Esports, led by rookie phenom Perkz, rose from the Promotion Tournament to win both splits, ending the historic reign of Fnatic.

Detailed Tournament Format

Spring Split:

  • Standard Double Round Robin with Best-of-One (Bo1) matches.
  • Top 6 teams qualify for Playoffs.

Summer Split (Bo2 Format):

  • Europe experimented with the Best-of-Two (Bo2) format. A 2-0 win gave 3 points, while a 1-1 draw gave 1 point to each team.
  • This led to a highly competitive regular season with a focus on consistency.

Playoffs & Worlds:

  • Single elimination Bo5 bracket. The Summer Champion, Point Leader, and Gauntlet Winner qualified for the World Championship in North America.
