Overview

The 2025 League of Legends World Championship marks the culmination of the global competitive season. This year’s edition returns to China, bringing together the strongest teams from every major region. A total of 17 teams will compete for the title, glory, and a share of a multi-million-dollar prize pool.

Tournament Structure

The event is divided into three stages: Play-In, Swiss Stage, and Knockout Stage.

Regional Slots

  • Korea (LCK): 4 teams
  • China (LPL): 4 teams
  • Americas (LTA): 3 teams
  • EMEA (LEC): 3 teams
  • Asia-Pacific (LCP): 3 teams

Stage 1: Play-In (October 14)

Two fourth-seeded teams — from the regions that earned extra slots through MSI performance — face off for the final Swiss Stage spot.

  • Best-of-five series
  • Fearless Draft ruleset
  • Winner advances to the Swiss Stage; Loser is eliminated.

Stage 2: Swiss Stage (October 15–19 & 22–25)

The main portion of the tournament brings together 16 teams: 15 automatically qualified teams + the Play-In winner.

  • Five rounds total. Teams cannot face the same opponent twice.
  • Teams with 3 wins move on to the Knockout Stage.
  • Teams with 3 losses are eliminated.
  • Advancement & elimination matches: Best-of-three, Fearless Draft.
  • All other matches: Best-of-one.
  • Side Selection: Higher regional seed chooses side. If seeds are equal, the team drawn first chooses.

Stage 3: Knockout Stage (Oct 28–Nov 2 & Nov 9)

Eight teams enter a single-elimination playoff bracket.

  • All matches are Best-of-five, Fearless Draft.
  • Quarterfinals side selection: team with the better Swiss record picks first; ties resolved by draw.
  • Semifinals & Finals: Game 1 side determined by coin flip.

Patch Info: The entire tournament is played on Patch 25.20.
