NA LCS 2016 Season
A Year of Revolution: New Kings and Historic Runs
Detailed Season Overview
The 2016 NA LCS Season was a watershed year that redefined the region's hierarchy. It began with the explosion of the new organization
Immortals, who famously went 17-1 in Spring with the Huni/Reignover duo. However, Spring belonged to
Counter Logic Gaming, who defended their title with rookie ADC Stixxay and went on to reach the finals of MSI 2016, the best international showing for NA at the time.
The Summer Split saw the formation of the greatest roster in LCS history: the 2016
TSM lineup (Hauntzer, Svenskeren, Bjergsen, Doublelift, Biofrost). They dominated the league with a nearly perfect 17-1 match record (35-6 in games), crushing opponents with aggressive play.
Cloud9 also solidified their "Gauntlet Buff" reputation, running the table in the Regional Qualifiers to make Worlds yet again.
Spring Split Narrative
- The Yellowstar Experiment: TSM imported
Fnatic legend Yellowstar, but the team struggled to 6th place in regular season. - The Cinderella Run: Despite the low seed, TSM upset the juggernaut Immortals (17-1) in playoffs to meet CLG in the finals.
- "It's Stixxay!": CLG won back-to-back titles in a 5-game thriller vs TSM at Mandalay Bay.
Summer Split Narrative
- Format Change: The league moved from Best-of-1 to Best-of-3 for the regular season.
- TSM Dominance: With rookie Biofrost and the return of Doublelift, TSM was nearly unbeatable.
- "Top Die": C9 Impact dominated the top lane in playoffs, leading C9 to the finals.
