LJL 2024: The PCS Integration Era

The LJL 2024 Season marked the 19th season of Japan's professional League of Legends league. This year was historic as the LJL ceased to have direct qualification to international events. Instead, the LJL was integrated directly into the PCS Ecosystem.

2024 Format Changes

  • League Downsizing: The league was reduced from 8 teams to 6. AXIZ and Crest Gaming Act merged to form AXIZ CREST, while FENNEL disbanded.
  • Regular Season: Double Round Robin. Matches are Best-of-Two (Bo2). Teams earn 3 points for a 2-0 win, 1 point for a 1-1 tie, and 0 points for a loss.
  • Playoffs Goal: The top teams from the LJL playoffs advanced directly into the multi-region PCS Playoffs to fight for spots at MSI and Worlds.

The Path to International Stages

Because the LJL lost its direct seed in 2024, the top teams from Japan had to face the best teams from the PCS (Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau/SEA) and LCO (Oceania) in a joint playoff bracket.

  • Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS gaming represented the LJL brilliantly throughout the year, making deep runs in both the Spring and Summer PCS Playoffs.
  • In the Summer PCS Playoffs, SHG reached the Grand Finals against PSG Talon, successfully qualifying for the 2024 World Championship Play-In Stage as the PCS 2nd Seed.
