LJL 2019: The New Partnership Era

The LJL 2019 Season marked the 9th and 10th seasons of Japan's professional League of Legends circuit. This year was a massive milestone as the LJL expanded to 8 teams and introduced a formal partnership structure, modernizing the region's esports ecosystem.

2019 Format Rules

  • League Expansion: The league expanded from 6 to 8 teams, welcoming AXIZ and Sengoku Gaming.
  • Regular Season: Triple Round Robin. Every team plays 21 matches. All matches are Best-of-One (Bo1).
  • Playoffs: A highly exclusive format where only the Top 3 teams advance. The 2nd and 3rd seeds play in the Semifinal, with the winner facing the 1st seed in the Grand Final. Matches are Best-of-Five (Bo5).
  • International Qualification: The Spring Champion qualified for the 2019 MSI Play-In. The Summer Champion qualified for the 2019 World Championship Play-In.

Spring Playoffs

Because only 3 teams qualified for the playoffs, the bracket consisted of a single Semifinal match between the 2nd and 3rd seeds, followed by the Grand Final against the 1st seed. DFM capped off a legendary 20-1 regular season with a clean 3-0 sweep over Unsold Stuff Gaming.
